WORDS FAIL
By Christian Blau
A reflection in times of epochal disruption on the theoretical possibility of harmony and healing.
So going away from words and images
and trying to avoid any expressive gestures in my new work block WORDS FAIL
I understand this as a political statement in 2025
I am concentrated like always, to investigate all possible impacts and readings of a work.
I do not want to promote spiritual ideas, although we all do not really understand
how all things work together.
The golden cut, in this work, is a starting point to investigate.
Each work consists of three equally sized canvases
in sand on burlap, plain burlap, and white-painted sand on burlap.
The two horizontal pencil lines vary around the ideal golden cut.
The pure burlap versions allow us to look deeper behind the surface
and thus provide 2 or more reference points to the golden cut.
For this work block, I'm also producing sound objects.
They consist of the same wooden frames as the canvas works.
A mid-tone speaker is located centrally on a Plexiglas panel mounted within the frame.
The speaker is powered by a miniature sound chip.
A button starts or stops playback.
You can hear sounds that are offered in many forums online
as having a positive effect on our body or mind.
Interesting in this regard are the ideas of the American psychiatrist and neuroscientist
Steven Porges and his polyvagal theory.
His Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), is intended to help combat autism
and stimulate the vagus nerve.
The hype surrounding ASMR sounds is also interesting, especially among many young people.
